Built of steel by Joh C Tecklenborg, Geestemünde for Reederei F. Laeisz, Hamburg. She was given the name Padua and was rigged as a four-masted barque carrying royals over double topgallant sails. The Padua was the last large square rigged vessel in the world to be built for carrying cargo. She was put on the South American nitrate trade.

Made one voyage on the Australian wheat trade together with sister ship Priwall.
- 1938
Made another voyage on the wheat trade.
- 21 December 1945
Delivered to the Soviet union as war compensation. She was rebuilt in Leningrad, had an engine installed, and was renamed the Kruzenshtern. Since then she has been used as a Soviet and now Russian schoolship.
