Built of steel by J. Reid & Co., Port Glasgow for Knöhr & Burchard, Hamburg. She was rigged as a four-masted barque carrying double topgallant sails but no royals. She was the third of four sister ships, the other ones being Octavia, Colonial Empire and Mneme.

Sold to China and used as a hulk.
