| The jack-ass barque was a fairly uncommon ship type with a peculiar name. Basically, anything that looks like something between a barque and a barquentine can be called a jack-ass barque. A three-masted jack-ass barque might have a square rigged foremast, a mainmast with a gaff mainsail but square topsails and topgallant sails, and a fore-and-aft rigged mizzen mast. A four-masted jack-ass barque might have the fore- and mainmasts square rigged and the mizzen- and jiggermasts fore-and-aft rigged. | Vessel database Alphabetic listing Chronological listing Articles and nautical terms Search the site (with Google): Support the site: |
